Environmental Firm Relies on GPRS for Critical Project - Manitowoc, WI

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, Inc. – GPRS – of Wisconsin was contacted by a nationwide environmental firm to investigate a 3.5-acre property to identify remaining UST’s and underground tunnel systems in Manitowoc, WI. The environmental firm had outdated and inaccurate maps of tunnel systems and tanks remaining on the property. The property was previously a large manufacturing plant in the early 1900s. With most of the buildings demolished, the environmental firm trusted GPRS to locate tunnels in order to determine a plan of action for when scientists were to enter the tunnels for evaluation. Locating and mapping the tunnels that were on the site was critical for planning how long of air tubing will be needed and what safety precautions will need to be put in place for scientists to enter the tunnels. GPRS was able to locate a majority of the tunnels inside the buildings and on the exterior. GPRS also identified two underground storage tanks that were not known prior to the investigation. GPRS then mapped the tunnels for the client using a GPS Trimble device to add to their permanent records.
