Concrete Scanning for Conduit Lines - Appleton, Wisconsin

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, Inc. – GPRS – of Wisconsin was contacted by a general contractor out of Neenah, WI. to locate conduits within, and below a concrete slab prior to saw cutting.

While scanning the area, GPRS was able to locate several conduits, and as the scan was completed, GPRS Project Manager, Chris Geary took pictures of the findings, and annotated the pictures for clarity. Once the scan was finished, these pictures were added to the job summary report that was completed WHILE ON SITE. The contractor then used the results of the scan to plan out how to cut or chip the slab in areas without damaging live utilities.

Several days after the scan was finished, we followed up with the contractor, and they said that their saw cutting went well, and they did not have any issues; not a single conduit or utility was damaged during the saw cutting process. During this phone call, the contractor informed us that they had previously used a concrete imaging radar (CIR) company out of Waukesha, WI., and they had many issues. The client was so happy with our work that they decided to award us with three more projects which were scheduled to take place in the next 30 days.

Ground penetrating radar is a great tool to scan areas of post tension cables, rebar, and conduits, including PVC pipes and can also be used to locate underground utilities prior to digging or excavating.
